THE BUILDING This character building located at the corner on McDermot Street situated between Arthur Street and King Street, is an important part of the Exchange District. Completed in 1899 was built by R.J. Whitla for his expanding dry goods business. Two storeys were added to the original five in 1904. With its clear and simple geometric lines, the structure is Richardsonian- Romanesque in style. A plaque is mounted on the northeast corner of the building, which is a municipally-designated historic site.
